Pools
2024-2026
Pools is a series of collages incorporating recycled paper and reused envelopes that explore memory, scale, and the intimate ecosystems of tidal pools. These works draw from the experience of tidal-pool exploration, offering abstracted views of the depth, complexity, and quiet mystery contained within small bodies of seawater left behind as the tide recedes.
Each collage alludes to the layered life of a tidal pool—a contained universe rich with color, movement, and interdependent forms. Though modest in scale, these pools hold vast imaginative power, particularly for children, inviting close looking, discovery, and awe. The compositions evoke the sensation of hands submerged in cool water, the moment when the boundary between body and environment dissolves.
Rooted in the my own childhood memories, the work also bridges generations, connecting those early experiences of wonder to the observation of my own children exploring tidal pools. Pools studies reflect on the joy, curiosity, and mystery embedded in these fleeting spaces, creating images that invite viewers to recall their own moments of discovery and to re-enter the quiet magic of small, overlooked worlds.
